Costa Rica Students and Teachers

Because we know that it is the youth of today that shall shape the borders of tomorrow, Bring Peace Not Pain is proud to sponsor a Costa Rica/US exchange program. Interaction breeds understanding and it was in this spirit that Newport, RI families agreed to host the twenty brave and adventurous students and teachers from Liberia, Costa Rica. The exchange worked towards the goals of intercultural understanding and appreciation and can be summed up in a few words by program director Blake Nance. “It is likely that at first the students will identify themselves by their differences. Hopefully by the end of the four weeks the boundaries of these identities will have shifted and he or she who was at first an exotic stereotype will have become a familiar individual; ‘I am Tico/American; and you are not,’ will be replaced by, ‘We are friends.’”
